Donald Trump appears to forget JD Vances wife Ushas name in embarrassing blunder

Donald Trump appeared to fumble the name of Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha, while discussing her upcoming trip to Greenland. Although it’s normal to forget names occasionally, one would expect a president to remember the spouse of a close colleague. Yet during a White House press briefing, Trump hesitated and eventually referred to her simply as “JD Vance’s wife.”
He was speaking about the planned trip on March 27, which includes the second lady and U.S. national security adviser Mike Waltz—a visit that has already ignited controversy. Greenlanders have expressed concerns, describing the trip as a “demonstration of power” by Trump. The president, however, maintained that the delegation was “invited,” a claim that Greenland’s government promptly refuted.
In an official statement, Greenland’s government clarified that they had not extended any invitations for either private or official visits. During his speech, Trump tried to mention Usha Vance, but after stumbling over her name, he offered only vague praise. “I thought it would be a great… I have great respect for, er, the wife of our great vice president. I think she’s doing a… she’s a brilliant woman. She’s, er, very nice and she loves the concept of Greenland,” he said.
Even FOX Business host Larry Kudlow stumbled, referring on air to “Mike Waltz going to Greenland, the erm… er, JD Vance’s wife is going to Greenland.” While Trump insisted the trip was solely about friendship, Greenland’s leadership remains skeptical. “So they’re going there, and that’s purely friendship … People from Greenland are asking us to go. We have many, many requests from many, many people – some officials, too,” Trump claimed.
Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte B. Egede, pushed back, stating, “We are now at a level where it can in no way be characterized as a harmless visit from a politician’s wife.” He questioned the real motives behind the visit, adding, “What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”
