The beloved star has died, leaving the world in shock
A beloved rugby legend was honored as hundreds gathered at Leeds Civic Hall to celebrate his life following his battle with motor neurone disease (MND). The emotional event brought together family, friends, and fans to pay tribute to his inspiring legacy.
The reception, attended by about 180 people, was organized by Abigail Marshall Katung, the Lord Mayor of Leeds. Notable figures included Jamie Jones-Buchanan, a former teammate, Tanya Curry, CEO of the MND Association, and James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council.
The cortege later proceeded to a private service on July 7, drawing crowds who lined the streets in Leeds Rhinos shirts. The hearse paused at Featherstone Lions’ ground, a nod to his junior rugby roots, as loved ones, including his wife and children, accompanied him.
His wife shared a heartfelt tribute, recalling how he “made the world a better place,” and his parting message resonated deeply: “In a world full of adversity, we must still dare to dream.”
