A tragic accident in Manitoba, Canada, claimed the lives of at least 15 people on Thursday when a bus carrying elderly passengers collided with a truck at an intersection near Carberry, approximately 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The passengers aboard the bus were reportedly on their way to a casino in Carberry. Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill, commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed the devastating toll: “At least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.” Ten others were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Both drivers survived the accident, but authorities have not yet determined or disclosed which party may have been at fault. Images from the crash site showed a grim scene, with wheelchair seats and walking frames scattered near tarpaulins that covered the victims.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his condolences, stating, “My thoughts are with the injured and the families of those who lost loved ones.” Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also extended her heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the tragic event.
