Sending prayers to the family
A seven-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in an explosion in Newcastle has been identified as Archie York, with his family honoring his memory in heartfelt tributes. A second victim, believed to be a man in his 30s, was also found in the aftermath of the blast.
Northumbria Police expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the two people who have tragically lost their lives. Specialist officers are supporting their loved ones, and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
The explosion occurred early on October 16 in the Benwell and Elswick area of Newcastle, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene. Six individuals, including five adults and one child, were taken to the hospital. All but one have since been released, with the remaining victim, a man in his 30s, in critical but stable condition.
Superintendent Darren Adams addressed the tragedy, saying, “It is with great sadness that I stand before you today following the tragic death of a young child. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he sadly passed away at the scene. This is an incredibly devastating outcome.”
In tribute to Archie, his family shared loving memories of him online, describing him as “the most beautiful, funny, and caring little boy,” and emphasizing that his name “deserves to be shouted from the rooftops.” A neighbor also praised Archie, calling him a “lovely lad” who was known and adored by everyone.
Drone footage of the explosion site revealed the full extent of the destruction, with one house almost completely destroyed and neighboring homes severely damaged. Several people were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.
Northumbria Police confirmed that no further individuals were reported missing in connection with the explosion.
