My Brother Mocked My Husband for Being Just an Electrician – Until Karma Delivered the Ultimate Payback
My Brother Kept Insulting My Husband for Being ‘Just an Electrician’ – But Karma Had the Last Laugh
My brother and I are nothing alike—except for maybe our perseverance. We come from a family of white-collar professionals, and while we both achieved successful careers, our paths couldn’t be more different. Even though I married an electrician who owns a highly successful business, my brother can’t seem to see past the title of ‘electrician.’
After years of enduring his belittling remarks, I had enough. But before I could teach him a lesson, karma stepped in.
I grew up in a privileged home, raised by parents who worked tirelessly to provide for us while instilling a strong work ethic. My mother is a brain surgeon, and my father runs his own business. My older brother, Jack, became a lawyer, but he’s more interested in flaunting his wealth than putting in the hard work to build his own practice. Instead, he revels in his extravagant lifestyle—fancy cars, designer clothes, and endless bragging. He’s even engaged to his third fiancée, which he treats as another status symbol.
I, on the other hand, have always been more reserved. My husband Mark and I live comfortably, though we choose to lead a modest life. What Jack doesn’t know is that Mark, in addition to being an electrician, went to business school and built a company that earns four times my own income. Despite his success, Mark is humble, investing much of his earnings back into the business and making charitable contributions. His kindness is something my parents deeply appreciate—especially when we surprised them with an all-expenses-paid cruise for their 30th wedding anniversary.
But Jack’s arrogance never falters. One Mother’s Day, after I gifted our mom a series of spa sessions and Jack handed her a flashy, expensive watch, he couldn’t resist taking a jab at my husband. “This watch is a limited edition. The salesperson knew I was a lawyer and gave it to me right away,” he boasted. “An electrician could never afford something like this,” he sneered, turning to Mark with a smirk.
Mark, ever the gracious man, simply smiled and let it go, but I could see the hurt in his eyes. Jack continued his condescending remarks, mocking Mark’s profession as though it were something trivial. Little did Jack know that Mark could easily buy his law firm and still have money to spare. But we remained silent, knowing that Jack’s time would come.
And it did, sooner than I expected.
A few weeks later, during a family barbecue, Jack made his usual grand entrance—showing up late, as always, in his prized Porsche with his fiancée on his arm. He strutted around, bragging about his latest court victory and the lavish honeymoon he was planning for his next wedding. As I stood there, ready to expose him by comparing the real designer purse I had to the knock-off he bought for his fiancée, a commotion erupted outside.
We all rushed out to see Jack’s beloved Porsche being hooked up to a tow truck. Panic spread across his face as he argued with the driver. “This must be a mistake,” Jack stammered. The driver shook his head. “Sorry, it’s being repossessed. You’re months behind on payments.”
Jack went pale, and as he stood there in shock, his fiancée slipped quietly into the house, embarrassed. Alone and vulnerable, Jack finally admitted the truth—he had lost his job. A major case he mishandled had caused his firm to be sued, and no one would hire him. His debts had piled up, and he could no longer maintain his extravagant lifestyle.
In that moment, I felt a mix of pity and satisfaction. Life had taught Jack the humility I had wanted him to learn. Without saying a word, I walked over to him. “Maybe this is a sign to rethink things,” I said gently. For the first time, Jack’s arrogance had vanished, replaced by a vulnerability I had never seen before. “I guess I had this coming,” he admitted.
Before I could respond, Mark stepped forward and put a hand on Jack’s shoulder. “If you need work, I could use an extra set of hands in my company. It’s not glamorous, but it’s honest and pays well.”
Jack looked stunned. “You’d actually hire me after everything I said?”
Mark smiled. “Everyone deserves a second chance.”
That day, as the sun set, Jack accepted Mark’s offer. He worked hard, starting from the bottom and learning the trade. Over time, his arrogance faded, replaced by a newfound respect for honest labor and gratitude for the second chance he’d been given.
Karma had done its job, but in the end, our family was still there for Jack. The road ahead wasn’t easy, but we were with him every step of the way. And maybe, just maybe, he became a better man for it.
