Woman sends list of rules to wedding guests – soon a lot of them start cancelling…

Every bride dreams of having the perfect wedding day. While you can control many aspects, such as the dress, the venue, and the catering, it’s impossible to guarantee that everything will go off without a hitch.

One bride had a meticulous plan for her big day, but she soon discovered that not everyone shared her vision. To see what happened, read on.

A bride-to-be recently took to Reddit’s ‘AITAH’ subreddit (Am I The Asshole) to seek advice on whether her demands were unreasonable. She wanted to clarify upfront that her fiancé was equally involved in setting these rules and fully supported them.

The couple had sent out a list of strict guidelines to their wedding guests, which led to a number of cancellations.

First on their list was an “unplugged ceremony”—guests were to keep their phones away during both the ceremony and the dinner unless it was a significant emergency. While many understood the no-phone rule for the ceremony, the prohibition during dinner seemed excessive to some. The bride addressed concerns from parents who needed to check on their children, insisting that if exceptions were made, they would have to apply to everyone. “Checking on your kids is not an emergency. If something serious happens, you’ll be informed,” she stated.

The couple also imposed a strict color scheme and dress code. Guests were required to wear black attire—women in dresses and men in tuxedos. There were no exceptions. This included her aunt, who had recently started wearing more colorful clothing after a period of mourning, and her future sister-in-law, who struggled with body dysmorphia and preferred pants for comfort. The bride refused to make exceptions for either.

Additionally, the bride mandated that bridesmaids maintain their weight—whether by eating less or more—after their dresses were ordered months in advance.

The bride’s mother was outraged by these rules, predicting that the wedding was doomed from the start. Bridesmaids threatened to drop out, and guests continued to cancel.

The maid of honor’s daughter was supposed to be the flower girl, but this plan fell through. The bride insisted the flower girl be left at a hotel with a babysitter during the ceremony. The maid of honor disagreed and instead planned to leave her daughter with her mother, given the wedding venue was a four-hour drive away.

Despite the bride’s preemptive clarification, many Redditors felt she and her fiancé were being unreasonable with their demands. The consensus was that while a wedding can reflect the couple’s wishes, guests are not obligated to adhere to such stringent rules and are free to opt out.
