My Boyfriend ‘Forgets’ His Credit Card Every Time We Go Out To Eat, So I Have To Pay For Everyone

A 32-year-old woman had been dating her 39-year-old boyfriend, who had two young children, for nine months when a significant argument erupted between them. Seeking advice, she turned to Reddit after growing frustrated with her boyfriend’s recurring habit of “forgetting” his wallet during their restaurant outings, which left her covering the bill for everyone each time.

The woman expressed particular concern about how her actions might be perceived by his children. The kids loved eating out, so they had developed a routine of going to restaurants weekly. However, each time, her boyfriend conveniently forgot his wallet, leaving her to pay for the entire meal. At first, she didn’t mind, but after a month of covering multiple expensive meals, her finances were strained.

One night, after receiving payment from her second part-time job, they planned another dinner outing with his children. Anticipating the usual scenario, she texted him a reminder to bring his wallet, which he laughed off. Once they arrived at the restaurant, his children ordered several pricey items. Before the meal was served, she asked him if he had his wallet. He feigned surprise, patted his pockets, and claimed, “Guess I forgot it in the other pair of jeans.”

Fed up with the situation, the woman decided she had had enough. She grabbed her things and prepared to leave without eating. Her boyfriend demanded to know what she was doing, and she told him she wasn’t going to pay for him and his children again. She then walked out of the restaurant.

Later, her boyfriend called her selfish, accusing her of abandoning them in a difficult situation. He was particularly upset that she had no sympathy for him and his children, who had to cancel their food order and go home hungry. The argument escalated, with him suggesting that he might reconsider their relationship due to what he perceived as her selfishness and the way she treated his children.

The woman was left questioning whether she had handled the situation correctly and sought advice on whether she had been unfair, or if her actions were justified given the circumstances.
