Trump shows off wrinkled hands amid latest health fear

Trump’s Bruised and Wrinkled Hands Spark New Health Speculation Amid Presidency
At 79, Donald Trump holds the title of the oldest U.S. president ever inaugurated. But with his age comes heightened scrutiny—and this time, the focus is on his hands. Recent images showing bruises and deep wrinkles, particularly on his right hand, have reignited public concern about his health.
Despite swirling rumors, Trump’s medical team insists he’s in good health. In April, White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella issued a comprehensive report declaring Trump “fully fit” to serve as Commander-in-Chief. The exam covered his heart, lungs, neurological function, digestive system, and included updates on past procedures such as cataract surgery. The report also mentioned a benign colon polyp and prescribed medications for cholesterol, cardiac protection, and a mild skin condition.
Still, the visible bruises on his hands have led to growing online debate. They were first noticed during Trump’s hush money trial in spring 2024 and have resurfaced in public appearances and diplomatic meetings since. When asked about them, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the concerns, attributing the marks to Trump’s famously vigorous handshakes.
Trump echoed this explanation himself in a Time Magazine interview, claiming the bruising was simply a result of “shaking more hands than any president in history.”
However, some medical professionals have weighed in with alternative insights. Dr. Ola Otulana, a physician based in the UK, told The Economic Times the marks look like superficial contusions—minor bruises caused by repeated pressure, accidental knocks, or even simple blood draws. According to Otulana, thinning skin and fragile blood vessels, common in older adults, could make these bruises appear more pronounced and slower to heal. Medications like blood thinners may also be a contributing factor. He concluded there’s no immediate cause for alarm.
The speculation reached new heights following a viral photo from a June 9 UFC event, where Trump was seen with what some believed to be a catheter line visible through his pants. Social media lit up with conspiracy theories suggesting the former president wore leg braces or a Foley catheter. Experts were quick to refute the claims, explaining that what many saw was likely just a pant crease—not a medical device.
As Trump begins his 80th year while still in office, the scrutiny of his health is unlikely to fade. But so far, medical assessments continue to paint a picture of a man who, despite his age, remains physically and cognitively capable of performing presidential duties.
