Obama Familys Sad Announcement

The Obama family is mourning the loss of Marian Robinson, the beloved mother of former First Lady Michelle Obama, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86. The family released a statement Friday morning confirming her death and expressing their deep sorrow over the passing of a woman who played a central, steadying role in their lives.

Michelle Obama shared an emotional tribute on social media, calling her mother “my rock” and praising her unwavering support. “She was there for whatever I needed—the same steady support for our whole family,” Michelle wrote. “We’re heartbroken to lose her today.”

Former President Barack Obama also honored his mother-in-law, describing her as a quiet force who anchored their family with wisdom and grace. “She was one-of-a-kind,” he posted. “We feel lucky to have had her in our lives, and we’ll spend our years trying to live by her example.”

Born Marian Shields in 1937, she married Fraser Robinson III, a World War II veteran and longtime city water department employee in Chicago. Together, they raised two children—Michelle and Craig—in a humble home on the South Side, where values of hard work, humility, and community were at the core of family life.

Though she was a private woman who shunned the spotlight, Marian Robinson quietly captured the hearts of many during her time in the White House. Moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to help care for her granddaughters, Sasha and Malia, she brought warmth and groundedness to the nation’s most powerful residence, becoming a symbol of grace, dignity, and unshakable maternal strength.

Her legacy is not just that of a devoted mother and grandmother—it is the story of a woman who, through quiet resolve and deep love, helped shape a First Lady, support a President, and remind a nation of the enduring strength of family.
