FBI reopens investigation into White House coca-ine scandal

The FBI has made a surprising move by reopening its investigation into one of the strangest controversies of the Biden administration: the mysterious bag of cocaine discovered in the West Wing in July 2023.

On May 26th, Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the bureau is now revisiting several unresolved high-profile cases. These include the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision leak, the still-unsolved 2021 pipe bomb incident in D.C., and notably, the baffling White House cocaine case.

“In our initial review of potential public corruption cases after taking office, the Director and I identified several matters that warranted deeper scrutiny,” Bongino wrote. “We’ve now either reopened these investigations or allocated more resources to them. I receive weekly updates, and these cases are actively moving forward.”

The cocaine discovery sent shockwaves across the nation. On July 2, 2023, Secret Service agents found a small bag of cocaine tucked into a cubby near the West Wing entrance—an area frequented by staff, visitors, and high-level guests. The discovery prompted an immediate evacuation of the White House. At the time, President Joe Biden and his family were away at Camp David.

Despite the FBI confirming that the substance was indeed cocaine, investigators found no usable fingerprints or DNA on the bag. The pool of potential suspects—over 500 employees and visitors—proved too vast for the Secret Service to narrow down, and the case stalled with no definitive answers.

Former President Donald Trump recently reignited controversy by commenting on the case in an interview. “It was such a terrible thing,” he said, “because those bins are used by so many people, and there should be hundreds of fingerprints—yet it was wiped clean.”

Pressed on who he believed was responsible, Trump was blunt: “Either Joe or Hunter,” he told interviewer Ben Domenech of The Spectator. “It might also be Joe.”

Though President Biden and his son Hunter were confirmed to be at Camp David at the time of the incident, speculation continues to swirl—largely fueled by Hunter Biden’s past. In his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things, Hunter opened up about his struggle with crack cocaine addiction. “I spent more time on my hands and knees picking through carpets, smoking anything that looked like crack,” he told CBS’s Tracy Smith. He even joked, “I probably smoked more Parmesan cheese than anyone you know.”

Hunter has testified under oath that he’s been sober since 2019.

As images of the cocaine bag and its location inside one of the most secure buildings in the world have surfaced, renewed scrutiny has fallen on the White House’s security procedures. With the FBI now giving the case renewed focus, many are wondering if the mystery might finally be solved.

Whether this new effort uncovers conclusive evidence or narrows down the suspect list remains uncertain. But what’s clear is that the West Wing cocaine mystery is far from resolved—and the public, and now federal investigators, are watching closely.
