Brother of Pope Leo XIV Responds to Controversial Social Media Posts

The older brother of newly elected Pope Leo XIV has broken his silence following backlash over a controversial social media post he made prior to his brother’s rise to the papacy. In a recent appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” 73-year-old Louis Prevost defended his actions while acknowledging the greater responsibility that now comes with being closely tied to the leader of the Catholic Church.

The controversy stems from a past post in which Prevost shared a crude video referencing U.S. political figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. While he didn’t offer a direct apology, Prevost said he stood by the sentiment, even if he now sees it through a more cautious lens.

“I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t believe it at least a little,” he said. “But I’ve definitely been more careful since. My brother has enough challenges ahead of him—I don’t need to create more.”

Prevost also shed light on his brother’s values and leadership style, describing Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, as someone who will likely aim for balance rather than extremes. “He’s not going to push the Church to the hard left,” he explained. “I see him staying centered—thoughtful, measured.”

According to Louis, while the pope may support greater inclusion, such as expanding roles for women within Church leadership, he doesn’t expect sweeping changes to core doctrine anytime soon. “He may open some doors,” he said, “but he’s not kicking them off the hinges.”

The papal transition has ignited global discussion, particularly around issues like immigration, social justice, and moral leadership. U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi recently expressed optimism that Pope Leo XIV would use his voice to advocate for compassion, especially for migrants and marginalized communities. “His values have always been clear,” she said. “And now more than ever, we need to listen.”

As Pope Leo XIV begins his tenure, attention is shifting away from his brother’s past comments and toward the substance of his papacy. Observers note that early signs point to a leader focused on unity, humility, and guiding the Church through an era of both turbulence and transformation.

While the headlines may have started with a controversy, the true story unfolding now is one of hope, and a world watching closely as Pope Leo XIV takes his first steps as the spiritual shepherd of over a billion Catholics worldwide.
