We Left, As Did LOTS of the Crowd, Fans Shame Miranda Lambert for Her Behavior at Montana Festival, What Happened

Miranda Lambert is once again at the center of controversy after her recent performance at a music festival left fans divided. Known for her unfiltered stage presence, the country music star has faced backlash before, but this latest incident has stirred up even more disappointment among concertgoers.

The controversy unfolded during her set at the Montana Festival on July 14, when a video captured by an attendee showed Lambert calling out audience members. Dressed in a denim dress with tassels and her signature cowboy hat, she appeared visibly frustrated with some in the crowd who weren’t paying full attention to her performance.

“I can see your head is not turned the right way, which is this way,” Lambert said in the clip, gesturing toward herself. Her sharp tone made it clear that she wasn’t pleased. Some fans responded with cheers, but others seemed caught off guard by the public scolding.

As she continued, Lambert doubled down. “So, if you came to visit, you can do it somewhere else,” she told the audience, making it clear that she wasn’t there to entertain distracted concertgoers. She then tried to lighten the mood, reassuring her engaged fans, “If you came to sing and hear some country music and drink some beer, then we’re doing that tonight.”

But her frustration didn’t stop there. Lambert also called out people in the crowd who appeared to be causing a disturbance. Raising her hands, she asked, “Are we clear?” before making a joking remark about the situation. “Fighting is not okay… And it’s always the girls. We get crazy!” she said with a chuckle, attempting to smooth over the tension before raising her cup in a toast to the audience.

That moment took an awkward turn when Lambert realized her drink was empty. Without hesitation, she shook her cup toward her stage crew and requested a refill. “Mine’s empty,” she noted, and within seconds, a fresh drink was handed to her. “This looks like a good time for a drink, y’all!” she exclaimed, stretching her arms wide in an effort to shift the mood.

The video, uploaded to TikTok with the caption, “Thoughts? 🤷🏻‍♀️ #mirandalambert #underthebigsky #whitefishmontana #countrymusic,” quickly went viral. The comment section filled up with mixed reactions, with many users expressing their disappointment. “We left. As did LOTS of the crowd,” one person wrote. Another called the moment “terrible,” while someone else admitted, “I stopped liking Miranda for this exact reason.”

Others recalled similar experiences with Lambert at past events. “This has always been her. I remember it from her county fair days. Never paid to see her again,” one user shared. Another criticized, “Miranda, you’re okay at best. Not amazing. Please respect your fans more. They made you who you are. Without them, you’d be some nobody working at Dairy Queen. Respectfully, just shut up and sing.”

Not everyone took issue with her behavior. Some fans praised her, arguing that her bluntness was part of what made her real. “Honestly, she was amazing. We were right up front and loved every second of it,” one concertgoer wrote. Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “🔥🔥🔥🔥 I LOVE her. Always have. She’s just brutally honest. Something so many of us lack.”

This isn’t the first time Lambert has stirred up controversy over her onstage interactions. During a Las Vegas concert, she stopped mid-performance of her song Tin Man to reprimand a group of women taking selfies. Clearly irritated, she had the band stop playing, pointed at the women, and remarked, “These girls are worried about their selfie and not listening to the song, and it’s pissed me off a little bit.”

While the audience largely cheered her reaction, some concertgoers were visibly upset and even left the venue. Similar to her Montana performance, the moment reignited debate over whether Lambert’s no-nonsense attitude was refreshing or just plain rude.

Social media has continued to buzz with reactions to her latest outburst. “Yikes, this was completely out of line and awkward. She’s not a teacher here 😅,” one TikTok user commented. Another sympathized with those Lambert had singled out, writing, “Imagine how they felt after this???” Some found humor in the situation, noting, “The people leaving right after she did it lmaoooo that was great!” And, of course, comparisons to other artists were inevitable, with one user adding, “Taylor Swift would never 😏.”

Lambert’s polarizing approach to crowd interactions is nothing new. While her unapologetic honesty keeps her fanbase loyal, it also alienates others who feel disrespected by her confrontational style. Despite the criticism, she continues to pack venues and sell out shows, proving that for better or worse, she’s staying true to herself—whether the audience likes it or not.
