In New Zealand, a tragic rally sprint crash claimed the lives of teenager Brooklyn Horan and 35-year-old Tyson Jemmett. The pair were competing in the Arcadia Road Rallysprint in Paparoa when their car veered off the gravel road and plunged into a flooded river.

According to police investigators, the crash occurred during a closed-road event authorized by the local Road Controlling Authority. Despite the efforts of first responders, both Horan, who was driving, and Jemmett were pronounced dead at the scene. MotorSport New Zealand confirmed that Horan was behind the wheel when the accident happened.

In a statement, MotorSport New Zealand said, “The event took place on Arcadia Road in Paparoa, which was closed to the public for the duration of the event under the authority of the local Road Controlling Authority. It is too early in the investigation to determine the main contributing factors to the crash. However, the road does not appear to have been in a detrimental or unsafe condition.”

Wayne Christie, president of MotorSport New Zealand, expressed his condolences: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of these two competitors and everyone involved with the Arcadia Road Rallysprint.”

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the motorsport community, leaving fans and participants mourning the loss of two passionate competitors. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
