Why Are We Helping Liz Cheney, Trump Tears Into Former GOP Rep

Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) delivered a scathing rebuke to President-elect Donald Trump following his threat to imprison members of the House committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, calling his remarks an “attack on the rule of law.”

In a statement to The Hill, Cheney firmly denounced Trump’s actions, stating, “Here is the truth: Donald Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election and seize power.”

She continued, “He incited a vengeful mob and led them to the U.S. Capitol, where they assaulted law enforcement, breached the building, and disrupted the official certification of electoral votes. For hours, as police officers were savagely beaten and the Capitol was under attack, Trump sat watching on television, refusing to call off the violence.”

Cheney’s remarks underscore her unwavering criticism of Trump’s conduct surrounding the Capitol riot, further solidifying her position as one of his most vocal Republican adversaries. Her condemnation has reignited discussions about accountability, the role of the January 6 committee, and the ongoing polarization within the Republican Party.
